James and Jodie were married last year in August at the Smithtown Landing Country Club.

Smithtown Landing Country Club 3

Overlooking the scenic Nissequogue River, and nestled within the rolling hills of Long Island’s North Shore, Smithtown Landing was the ideal setting for Jodie and James’ beautiful summer wedding.  Brilliant colored flowers consisting of hot pink roses, green mini-hydrangea, purple stock, pink gerberas, green bells of Ireland and yellow spray roses cascaded above them as they said their vows.

The same mix of gorgeous flowers sat atop a tall cylinder vase of submerged purple cymbidium orchids on each of the wedding reception tables.

When asked if he would share their love story, James was more than happy to:

Jodie and I met through a mutual friend.  We actually worked together in the same store, but she didn’t like me. It wasn’t until we happened to both be out for a friends birthday that we spoke and got to know each other.  We hung out most of that night and took it from there.

We went on our first date to a movie – Inside Man – and I was yelled at by her dad for wearing a hat in the house.  It is still a running joke that she set me up for failure by not warning me.

We are a pretty simple couple, so I wanted the proposal to be that… and also a surprise.  Plan too much and she would have been tipped off.  We were going to see a friend of mine in Connecticut, but we left late, so we were planning on stopping halfway in a hotel.  We stopped, and as she woke up in the morning, I was sitting beside the bed with ring in hand.  She was totally shocked as was everyone else.  The only people I told were her parents, and that’s what I wanted.

The only thing to have done differently would have been to do it sooner.

The most memorable part of the wedding was Elvis.  We had always said we wanted to get married in Vegas, but upon our engagement, we realized how hard that would be on the family.  So her Sisters and Mother hired Elvis to sing at the wedding.  While sitting down eating he hit the floor and sang about 5 songs.  Everyone was shocked and hysterical!  It was really a great surprise!

We went to St Martin for our honeymoon.

Bella Flowers was great to work with.  They were the only florist we met with, and everything was beautiful! I can’t even begin to count the amount of people that commented on them, including employees of the venue (Smithtown Landing Country Club).

Thank you for sharing your story with us, James.  We wish you and Jody a lifetime of happy memories!
