I just wanted to let you know that the flowers were absolutely amazing. We were beyond thrilled with everything! Love, love, loved them!
So grateful we found you,

Raina and Alex were married this last year.  Many times, when we share our client’s love stories, the focus is on the beautiful bride.  Yes, Raina was stunning on her wedding day, as you can see in the photos below.  But the most intriguing part of their love story lies in the creative way Alex proposed to her.  Raina shares their beautiful story below:

How did you meet?
Alex and I met about thirteen years ago while working together in a natural food store. Although we flirted, admiring each other from grocery isle distances, we remained friends for about two years before we started dating. Just before I went away to college we made it “official” as we both knew our relationship was too good to let distance intervene.

Where did you go on your first date?
It is difficult to pinpoint a “first” date per se, as our relationship eased its way out of friendship. I will say that any date or any THING Alex plans is always with tremendous style and grand gesture. He is not a show off; he just has a keen eye for detail and how to make a girl feel treasured.

How did you propose?
As I stated in the last question, Alex does everything with a particular flair. He led me to believe that I was being a good girlfriend and keeping him company on a ride out to Montauk for an estimate for his business. The “client” called on our drive out there to tell him that she would be late. Alex convinced me that we should pass the time by visiting the lighthouse on the beach, as it was a place he would go with his father as a child. He took me on trek down the beach, it was November at the time, and we began discovering these random artifacts as we walked. It was as if there had been a shipwreck and items were washed ashore. We found pitchers, pottery, and mangled candelabras on our way to the ultimate find, a rope entangled treasure chest stuck underneath rocks at the waters edge. Alex managed to remove the chest and began to shift through its contents: black and white photographs, tattered fabric and calligraphy written letters were among some of the items. He distracted me by asking me to read one of the letters and once I started he exclaimed,”You’re never going to believe what else is in here!” When I moved the letter from my view, Alex was on bended knee with the ring. I was so overwhelmed that I can not remember what he said, but we all know what my answer was. He jumped up and yelled out,”She said yes!” His brother was hiding in the reeds directly above us taking pictures the entire time. His best friend was down the beach posing as a fisherman.  (How sweet!)

If there is one thing you know you’ll never forget about your wedding day, what would it be?
While there are many unforgettable moments from our wedding day, we will never forget how hot it was. We got married on the Fourth of July and the temperature was upwards of 90 *. We could not complain, since the entire week leading up to the wedding was rain and thunderstorms. We just needed some extra handkerchiefs on hand, not for any tears but for wiping the sweat from Alex’s brow.

Is there something you would do differently that you can share with other couples?
Honestly, we wouldn’t change anything. We had about a year and a half from our engagement until the wedding, so we had plenty of time to decide what we wanted and do the necessary research.  We would suggest other couples give themselves time to figure out what they want…and a little Pinterest never hurts!

Where did you go for your honeymoon?
We went to Bali for our honeymoon. It was absolutely amazing in every aspect one could imagine;  we can’t wait to go back. Between white sand beaches, black sand beaches, temples, monkey forests, Segway tours through rice fields and riding elephants; our honeymoon was an adventure.

It sounds like quite an adventure!  Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful story with us, Raina.  We enjoyed creating your wedding flower arrangements and wish you and Alex the best.
