Jen and Art were married at our own fairytale castle on June 14, 2013. They had already found each other years earlier, but were young and restless and went their separate ways. Now that they had found each other again, they weren’t letting go! Jen shares their story below.
Coindre Hall was a stunning setting for Jen and Art’s perfect wedding day, and Lia from Imagine Studios caught every corner of the beautiful fairytale castle grounds in her incredible photography.
‘The flowers for the wedding were perfect, everything I had pictured in my head.’
Jen’s colors were hot pink and navy, so we had a great time with her wedding flowers! To show off her pretty wedding gown, we chose a bridal bouquet made up of blush and white peony with a hint of lily of the valley. Art wore a lily of the valley boutonniere, while his groomsmen wore a single white cymbidium orchid. To complement their hot pink gowns and strands of pearls, the girls carried bridesmaid bouquets filled with pink and hot pink peony, pink and hot pink garden roses, and white hydrangea.
- How did you meet?
We actually met back in 1998 and dated for a few months. We were young and didn’t know what we wanted, so we went our separate ways. We reconnected four years ago the week after Christmas and have been together since.
- Where did you go on your first date?
Our first date back in 1998 was meeting for drinks at Finnegan’s Pub in Huntington Village. Our first date four years ago was dinner at Black and Blue in Huntington Village as well.
- Where did Art propose to you?
Art actually proposed to me at my house in Centerport on my last day of school (I am a teacher) in June of 2012. I found out later he had planned on proposing the next day on a romantic picnic. He had the picnic basket ready to go with champagne and glasses. He is an impulsive person and couldn’t wait for a whole day, so he pulled the ring out during a thunder storm at the house. It was very spur of the moment and very much fits his personality. (How Sweet!)
- If there is one thing you know you’ll never forget about your wedding day, what would it be?
I will never forget the way the weather cleared up for our pictures, and then again for our ceremony and reception on the day of the wedding. We had torrential rain the night before and into that morning. It was cloudy and gloomy all morning while we got ready. AS soon as my hair and make-up were finished, the sun came out and there was a bright, beautiful, blue sky. We took so many wonderful pictures in the nice weather. Right before the outdoor ceremony it rained again, but then stopped just beforehand. The chairs were dried and, as I walked out the doors with my father, the sun came through the clouds and shined on the entire ceremony.
- Is there something you would do differently that you can share with other couples?
I would probably not get married in June. We had so many conflicts with graduations, we didn’t even realize this would be an issue on a Friday in mid-June, but it was. Other than that, everything was perfect!
- Where did you go for your honeymoon?
We ended up going to Disney World for our honeymoon. We spent a week there and had a great time. Art loves Disney, and we had just been to Turks and Caicos during the winter, so we figured, why not? We were able to relax and have fun.
It sounds like everything went beautifully for your wedding day as well as your honeymoon. And your photos show it very well. We’re happy for you! Thanks for sharing your fairytale story with us, Jen and Art. Congratulations to the two of you!
